Following a similar move by Air Canada, WestJet is targeting occasional travellers with the launch of its new Econo (Lowest) fare class, offering the lowest price without extra amenities.

According to WestJet, the new unbundled fare option is designed for the value-seeking guest who doesn’t travel often.

The move follows the launch of Air Canada’s Economy Basic fare launched last week and takes place ahead of the June launch of several ultra-low cost carriers, including WestJet's own Swoop and Canada Jetlines.
