First look: Images of Disney's newest cruise ship, the Disney Treasure

At a lavish ceremony held at Pier 66 in New York City on Tuesday night, Disney Cruise Line christened its newest vessel, the 4,000-passenger Disney Treasure.

The event featured a drone display and a live performance by Jordin Sparks, who sang the ship's hymn. TPG was given an early look at the ship on Wednesday and had the opportunity to explore its much awaited new areas, including as the Plaza de Coco restaurant and the Haunted Mansion Bar.

Although Disney Treasure and its sister ship, Disney Wish, have the same layout, the interior spaces of Disney Treasure are decorated and themed differently. Some of the ship's characteristic bars are modeled after famous Disney theme park attractions, and the ship is devoted to discovery and adventure.

Using images from our ship tour, we offer you a preview of Disney's newest cruise ship. Keep checking back because in December, TPG will be reporting from a real sailing where we will be able to see the venues fully operational.

First impression

Disney Treasure's Grand Hall is reminiscent of Asian and African palaces, with a subtle reference to Disney's "Aladdin." The intricate chandelier honors the six current ships in the Disney Cruise Line fleet, while the middle carpet features a fountain pattern.

The Grand Hall serves as the first place that guests see the ship after embarking and hosts a variety of events, such as live music and storytelling by the new characters Coriander and Sage. (They will even tell stories to adults after hours.)

Visitors can go on an expedition onboard Disney Treasure in a variety of directions from the Grand Hall.

Disney Treasure restaurants

Plaza de Coco

Plaza de Coco, the ship's newest addition to the included dining rotation, is a Mexican-themed eatery inspired by the film "Coco." The hallway leading to the venue, which features an ofrenda and family photos, creates the mood for the dinner to come. The room is cozy and welcoming, with rich colors.

Since guests will be dining here twice over a weeklong cruise, the dining experience will feature live mariachi music and dancing by the characters from the "Coco" movie, with two separate shows. Dia de los Muertos is celebrated in the second concert, whereas the first has a family feel.

Worlds of Marvel

On Disney Wish, the Worlds of Marvel restaurant made its premiere; on Treasure, it is back. In addition to Wish's "Quantum Encounter," the venue will host a second "Guardians of the Galaxy" performance called "Marvel Celebration of Heroes: Groot Remix."

Keep an eye out for lemmings while you're here.

Disney Treasure bars

Skipper Society

A few brand-new, immersive bars with entertaining Disney themes are being unveiled by Disney Treasure. Disney's Jungle Cruise attraction and its witty skippers served as the model for Skipper Society.

Periscope Pub

Jules Verne's "Twenty Thousand Leagues Under the Sea" (as well as the 1954 Disney film adaptation and theme park attraction) serves as the inspiration for Periscope Pub's concept.

Craft beers and extra-charged pub fare, such as a burger or soft pretzel, can be ordered at the bar. Remember to glance above since you never know what animals might be swimming above you.

The Haunted Mansion Parlor

The eerie yet renowned Haunted Mansion theme park experience is approached from a nautical perspective in the Haunted Mansion Parlor on Disney Treasure.

Over the course of 1 1/2 hours, the bar's act, which includes a seance and a story about a murder at sea, develops in five-minute bursts. Up until 9 p.m., when the area is exclusive to adults, families are encouraged to take advantage of the eerie atmosphere and entertaining sodas and mocktails.

Scat Cat Lounge

"The Aristocats" by Disney served as the inspiration for the Scat Cat Lounge, located just off the ship's Grand Hall.

It's a chic spot to drink cocktails in cat-face glasses and jazz piano music. Tea-themed cocktails are among the signature drinks.

The Hei Hei Cafe and Jade Cricket Cafe are two other bars on board.

Disney Treasure's cabins

There will be 1,256 cabins and suites on Disney Treasure, ranging from two-story apartments in the ship's fake funnel to cabins without windows. Scenes from Disney films such as "Aladdin," "Pocahontas," "Finding Nemo," "Up," "Luca," and "Encanto" will be incorporated into the cabin decor.

Concierge Suites will have references to "The Lion King," while the four Royal Suites honor the tigers from "The Jungle Book" and "Aladdin."

The Royal Suites are amazing two-story suites featuring a large terrace with an infinite hot tub, a sitting room downstairs, and a sleeping area upstairs.

The two-story Tomorrow Tower accommodation will be the ship's most ornate accommodation. The roughly 2,000-square-foot, multiroom suite sleeps up to eight people and has a futuristic, Epcot-inspired décor. It lacks a private balcony because it is situated in the ship's fake funnel.

Public spaces

Pool deck and AquaMouse

In addition to being a watery playground, Disney Treasure's pool deck is a great place to cool off on hot days. Disney's famous deck celebrations, such as the fireworks-filled Pirate Night concerts, are held there as well.

A water ride With the release of its third new animated short, AquaMouse makes a comeback on Disney Treasure. The animated series, titled "Curse of the Golden Egg," will follow Mickey and Minnie as they explore an old temple in search of lost riches.

The splash area with a "Toy Story" theme will be a hit with diaper-wearing kids, and I'm sure some adults will be tempted to join in.

Disney Treasure's free youngster amenities are on par with Disney's Oceaneer Club, one of the most inventive kids' clubs in the cruise business. From the Grand Hall, children (and adults) can access the club by a slide, same like on Disney Wish.

Inside, a maze of charming themed rooms provide a variety of programming, including Marvel Academy, Fairytale Hall, and an Imagineering Lab. Children can create their own superhero suit or build rides for theme parks and test them out in a ride simulator.

During open-house hours, adults can experience the pleasure; otherwise, the Oceaneer Club is exclusively for children.

For an hourly fee, parents can drop off their infants and toddlers at It's a Small World Nursery for supervised playtime and naps.

Sarabi is a two-story "Lion King" themed activity area aboard.

Broadway-style shows

"Disney The Tale of Moana" will be the premiere of Disney Treasure's new Broadway-style musical. Act 1 was shown to us in advance, and the sets, puppets, costumes, and choreography are stunning. Disney made sure that cultural advisers of Hawaiian and Samoan heritage were involved in the choreography and song selections, and the cast is among the most diverse Disney has ever had on a cruise ship.

"Beauty and the Beast" and "Seas the Adventure" will be the ship's other performances.

Disney Treasure will embark on its inaugural journey on alternate weeklong Eastern and Western Caribbean itineraries starting on December 21. This ship's warm, inviting design and tastefully themed rooms will appeal to families and cruisers of all ages.
